d'Eugenie

d'Eugenie

Domaine D’Eugenie was established in July 2006 when Francois Pinault, the owner of Chateau Latour, acquired the property from Rene Engel. Previously known as Domaine Rene Engel, the estate boosts a rich winemaking heritage that contributed significantly to the Burgundy region.

The domaine was named after Pinault’s grandmother, Eugenie, adding a personal touch to its heritage. Under Pinault’s leadership, substantial investments were made to both the vineyards and the winery, modernizing the facilities and adopting new technologies while respecting the traditional winemaking processes of Burgundy.

Spanning a total planted area of 4.51 hectares, the plots are located in the villages of Vosne-Romanee, Clos de Vougeot, Chassagne-Montrachet and Meursault. The estate employs environmentally friendly practices across all vineyard operations, prioritizing soil plowing and eschewing chemical weed control to protect the environment and maintain vine balance. The entire estate has been organically farmed since 2011.

The style of Domaine d'Eugenie is marked by elegance, complexity, and finesse. The estate produces wines from 9 appellations including Grand Crus Clos de Vougeot (1.37 hectares), Echezeaux (0.55 hectares), and Grands Echezeaux (0.50 hectares). We have tried the domaine's Clos de Vougeot on many occasions and it never disappoints. It has a magnificent situation at the top of the Clos near the Chateau, giving a splendid wine that combines the structure of the estate's Echezeaux with the finesse of the Grands Echezeaux. This wine is soft, elegant, and quintessentially biodynamic, offering great length and silky tannins. It’s effortlessly enjoyable, sip by sip.

The Echezeaux plot, covering 0.55 hectares in the Orveaux combe, south of the Musigny appellation. More masculine than the Grands-Echezeaux, the Echezeaux wines present an aromatic range dominated by black fruit and supported by a very fine tannic backbone. The powerful balance is beautifully integrated throughout the wine.

Additionally, the Grands Echezeaux plot, located just above the southeastern part of Clos-Vougeot, comprises 0.50 hectares at the start of the Grands-Echezeaux appellation. This wine showcases a very feminine style, with an expressive, distinguished nose and a wine characterized by fine density and silky smooth tannin structure.
