Ramonet

Ramonet

If there is a domaine in Chassagne Montrachet to rival the excellence of Puligny Montrachet’s Domaine Leflaive, it would undoubtedly be Domaine Ramonet. Standing as a pillar in the world of Burgundy white wines, captivating enthusiasts with its rich history and exceptional offerings, the estate was founded by Pierre Ramonet in 1930. With his first vineyard purchase in Les Grandes Ruchottes in 1934, Pierre set the stage for what would become one of Burgundy's most esteemed producers.

By the 1950s, Pierre had expanded his holdings to include several Premier and Grand Cru vineyards on the Montrachet hill, and his productions had secured the estate's prestigious reputation. In 1978, he further cemented his legacy by acquiring a coveted piece of Le Montrachet site. This 0.25 hectare plot in the Puligny section yields wines of unmatched refinement, characterized by floral elegance, intricate filigree, and a distinct stony minerality, perfectly capturing the essence of Puligny.

Today, the domaine thrives under the stewardship of the third generation, with Noel and Jean Claude Ramonet at the helm, supported by their children. The Domaine comprises 17 hectares surrounding the village of Chassagne, Puligny, Saint Aubin and more. The family is committed to uphold the diversity of their terroirs through sustainable practices, controlled yields, and manual harvesting. Only vines over 18 years old are chosen for their top cuvees, ensuring that tradition and quality remain paramount. The wines are crafted using traditional vinification methods and are aged in oak barrels for 12 to 18 months, depending on the appellation.

Tasting a Ramonet wine is like embarking on a sensory journey. The Premier Cru Chassagne Montrachet Les Caillerets and Les Ruchottes captivate with their fresh, vibrant notes of spices and florals. Meanwhile, the Grand Cru Batard Montrachet and Bienvenues Batard Montrachet offer an intense yet balanced experience of acidity and minerality. The Montrachet Grand Cru, a true masterpiece, reveals the sensual side of the terroir with hints of citrus fruits, honeysuckle, and resin. Ramonet's wines are known for their precision, depth, and complexity. Their commitment to quality, tradition, and detailed attention to the nuances of each vineyard plot allows them to consistently produce wines that are not only reflective of their origins but also set standards in terms of quality and enjoyment in the world of fine wines.
