This hadn't come my way since 2008 and like many '85s today, this isn't quite as good as it once was, mostly due to fatigue. Mild bricking. There is a touch of volatile acidity sitting atop the full-on sous-bois, spice and pungent earth-scented nose. I very much like the texture of the stony, detailed and utterly delicious middle weight flavors that deliver excellent persistence along with lovely depth on the lingering finish that evidences hints of both acid tang and warmth. This has always been an elegant and refined Chambertin and if not especially powerful, then certainly an exercise in harmony and grace. This is certainly a lovely effort that is still drinking well though the initial signs of decline are present and I would suggest drinking the '85 Chambertin up over the next few years.
