Under the guidance of Hubert de Bouard de Laforest, the 7th generation custodian, Angelus achieved the prestigious Premier Grand Cru Classe A status in 2012, a testament to the family's unwavering commitment to excellence. Upon his takeover of the estate in 1985, Hubert implemented innovative practices by reducing the use of chemical fertilizers, introducing grass cover in select parcels, enhancing the leaf canopy, and applying green harvesting to control yields. Angelus exclusively uses new oak barrels for aging its wine, which goes into barrels and ages on fine lees as early as possible. This process imbues the wine with its colour, richness, and complexity of aroma, while also embodying a distinctly modern interpretation of St Emilion.

In 2022, Chateau Angelus, along with Chateau Cheval Blanc and Chateau Ausone, announced their withdrawal from the St Emilion classification system. These estates continue to produce highly respected and sought after wines despite their departure from the official classification.
