Wonderfully gentle, delicate peat smoke with a fine citrus note flatters the nose, minimal mineral and phenolic notes are added, hints of fly ash and fruity sweetness. Noticeably more intense on the palate. Warm smoke, bitter ash, mineral peat, hints of burnt wood. Compared to the younger Laphis noticeably smoother and softer on the tongue, but still a good "thump" on the tongue. Pepper, sea salt and algae tickle the tongue, tart wood tones stick to the palate and yet the old Laphi somehow seems slightly watery. The aftertaste is soft and intense at the same time. No comparison to the brutal CS bottlings. Gentle, mild, smoky, peaty, mineral with slightly smoky notes of wood, a light citrus note plays with caramel and fruity sweetness. A great malt! Soft, gentle and yet with an unmistakable character. Malicious tongues would say "a watered down CS bottling with no bang", others enjoy this wonderful dram and dream of Islay...
