En Magnum - a good Mouton that is just starting to open-up in the magnum fomat. It had a nice Pauillac nose of earth and sous bois, cassis and berries, cedar wood and mint. The palate has softened nicely over the years, with fresh acidity and well-shaped tannins giving the wine a little soft, chewy texture as in unfolded in little layers of sweet cassis, savoury black olives, and nice earthiness underneath it all. Very integrated and enjoayble to drink - this may have lacked the power and depth of the great vintages, but there was still a very pleasant round fullness to it. Nice finish too, with a waft of decaying leaves and a lilt of coffee grounds and a gentle wood spice underlaid by slightly firmer tannins. An enjoayble wine that was at a very nice place after 6 hours in an open magnum.
