Now we are entering unicorn territory, Rene Engel... Boom, the nose sais it all. Splendid aromas of sour cherry, game, dried meat, Vosne spices, refined and complex. The palate is distinctively sour, like a whisky sour mouth feel but with so much aroma and red fruit. A texbook burg and showcase why we drink Pinot Noir from Burgundy. Alas, every time I drink a wine of the late Rene Engel I get both sad and angry to see how the Chateau Latour team of Francois Pinault have bastardized these wines, trying to make Parker style extracted Bordeaux in Burgundy. So stay away from Domaine Eugenie. It is not a successor Domaine, it has not even the slightest resemblance with the Grandeur of Rene Engel. 97
