The history of Chateau Margaux is remarkably long, dating back to the 12th century. However, it truly flourished in the 17th century under the visionary management of the Lestonnac family, expanding to nearly 265 hectares, with a third dedicated to vineyards. The estate's winemaking techniques have evolved over centuries, with significant contributions from figures like Berlon in the early 18th century, who pioneered the separate vinification of red and white grapes and recognized the importance of soil, plots, and terroir—paving the way for modern winemaking. In 1924, it was decided that all wines would be bottled at the château, providing a real guarantee of authenticity. Esteemed political figures such as British Prime Minister Sir Robert Walpole and Thomas Jefferson, the U.S. Ambassador to France, were admirers of Margaux wines.

Its modern renaissance began in the late 20th century with the Mentzelopoulos family. The family’s profound love for Margaux prompted significant investments during a sluggish market, updating the vineyard and winemaking facilities, reintroducing second wine Pavillon Rouge and white wine Pavillon Blanc, adopting new oak aging techniques, and planning the first large underground cellar in the region. Their passion swiftly restored the estate's reputation and wine quality, a legacy that continues under the Mentzelopoulos family's stewardship. Today, Chateau Margaux's 82-hectare vineyard is predominantly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, along with Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc for red wine. Approximately 11 hectares are dedicated to Sauvignon Blanc and some Semillon for white wine.

Since the 17th century, Grand Vin de Chateau Margaux has been recognized as one of the world's finest wines. This extraordinary wine blends delicacy, elegance, complexity, concentration, and vitality, with high tannins that are seldom astringent. In outstanding vintages, it offers remarkable finesse, aromatic complexity, and exceptional palate. Even in weaker years, it still provides an enjoyable experience. The wine can be enjoyed relatively young, showcasing pure fruit flavors, rich texture, and harmonious balance, yet it can also age gracefully for decades, revealing deeper, more complex, and refined characteristics over time.

The second wine, Pavillon Rouge, also has a long history dating back to the 17th century, born from a pursuit of excellence. Since the mid-1990s, the introduction of a third wine has led to stricter selection for Pavillon Rouge, with only 30% of the grapes used, a proportion similar to Grand Vin. Consequently, its quality has increasingly approached that of the Grand Vin, exhibiting similar power and smoothness while maintaining a delicate balance. Pavillon Rouge can be enjoyed earlier than Grand Vin but also possesses excellent aging potential, capable of maturing for over 30 years.
