Bought this year from the original purchaser. Opened to celebrate a birthday with a 1975 baby. The color is gorgeous and still relatively strong at the core. Color is wonderfully translucent (bottle was stood up for several weeks in advance of this). On the nose...Horses, Horses! And some iron and beef blood. And a bit of a floral aspect behind all that. On the palate, dark cherries and fresh cranberries. Smoking club chair - cigar tobacco and old leather. This wine has a real acid snap to it. Some fine tannins remain also. Overall this skews towards an elegant and lighter-weight mouthfeel/body, but the structure makes it feel more substantial. On the finish there is some sweetness from the maturity, but the finish is not long - perhaps only average in length, and shorter than most top wines from this Chateau. This is SO much better than certain critics/authors would have you believe. Sure these mid-to-late '70s Margauxs cannot compete with the best from the '80s and after, but they are stately, elegant, and classy wines in full maturity. This is not getting any better, but also not falling apart soon.
