Descriptions, Ratings & Tasting Notes

This was distilled at "the Beast of Dufftown" in 1936 and bottled at 36 year old by Gordon & MacPhail .

The black and red labelled Connoisseurs Choice labels were the very first. The range was devised for Edoardo Giaccone in Italy in the early 1970s, and became part of the main Gordon & MacPhail portfolio in 1979. It is now one of the most widely recognised independent whisky labels in the world.

Giaccone was something of a trailblazer, and was importing specially bottled official single malts for his bar from the late 1960s, this is one of his earliest. He opened the famous venue in 1958, and it has been called a few different things over the years, including Garten, Edward & Edward (during the period this was imported), and La Taverna del Comandante.

Edoardo set the stage for later legendary bottlers such as Silvano Samaroli, Nadi Fiori and Ernesto Mainardi. Moon Import founder, Pepi Mongiardino said, "he was the first person I visited" when he became the distributor for Bruichladdich in 1981. Giaccone did not have any of his own labels or series, but was the first person in Italy to have official bottlings produced exclusively for him. Through his bar, Italy was treated to exclusive releases from Clynelish, Bowmore, Dalmore, Highland Park and even Jack Daniel's.

Very vintage, very oldschool, certainly some old-bottle flavor, the finish is just a long time to call, because you could have something more lasting hope. All in all still a great whisky, but of course the price is due purely to the Vintage, for 90P I find something in the 120-200, - range, so currently about 45 times cheaper. : P Nose Immediately after pouring a very buttery and nutty nose, it almost reminds me of some dark bourbons I had, still has nice volume in the nose despite the bottling year and 43%, hazelnuts, macadamia, burnt butter, dark, viscous honey, beeswax, Pork bacon, oiled leather, chestnut, old, slightly damp oak, maple syrup, fennel, nutmeg and cinnamon, brown sugar, salted caramel, a few very dry raisins and old milk chocolate, a bit of cream cheese in the background after a while (I had with others Old Longmorn and Mortlach, if they are allowed 1-2 hours), Chesterfield armchairs, a touch of black tea, after a while more coagulated orange zest will be added, the chocolate will be more bitter, more tannins, a little more anise and pine nuts Taste Still has much power for the 43%, strong start! Trail mixes par excellence, hazelnuts, peanuts, macadamia, walnuts, black tea, rosemary, oregano, burnt orange and grapefruit stains, old leather now rather dried than oiled, burnt butter, more and more tannins are coming, overall dry and slightly bitter in the mouth as in the greasy nose, raisins and dried dates, autumn leaves, aniseed, pine nuts, dark chocolate, cocoa beans, old, dry tobacco, old chest of drawers, roasted almonds, pretzels, nutmeg, a hint of black pepper, cinnamon, saffron, fennel Finish Dark malt, many tannins, autumn leaves, anise, pine nuts, grapefruit, coffee, black tea, long
