A wonderful Macallan and one of the last 'old' ones. Distinguished and more subtle in character but at the same time offering everything (!) you need from an old Mackie! Nose Fresh oranges and berries (blueberry and black currant) and cherries. Dancing with orange peel, raisins and many different jams (i.e. dark plum jam, cherry jam, even a little apricot jam). Getting round surprisingly quick with a most pleasant subtle Sherry cask spiciness throughout - never too much, always in harmony. Old earthy notes (maybe even mushrooms) and a little maltiness. Scouring powder, leather, chocolate, also some cocoa powder, coffee. Maybe disappearingly faint hints of peat. The nose is elegant and distinguished, not very bold or pushing. Taste 'Cool' (even refreshing) at the beginning and very long with much scouring powder. Again the casks are present in a subtle and elegant way, giving spiciness and space. Fresh berries, jams, orange juice and peel. Some vanilla, not very much maltiness. Marzipan pralines, cocoa powder, coffee grounds, leater and some old wood later with earthy undertones. Interestingly fresh. Finish Old Sherry casks with orange peel and scouring powder. Later raisins and roasted malt. Leather again, coffee grounds, dark chocolate and hints of pralines. The wood is very pleasant, just round and balanced but with a nice tartness.
