Magnum: Even 5 years after this same wine was reviewed in 750 ml (see herein), it remains much fresher in magnum format, indeed there is even still a trace of wood framing the gorgeously spiced nose where only a trace of secondary characters are in evidence. There is strikingly good concentration to the wonderfully textured medium weight plus flavors that possess the same impressive depth as displayed by the nose along with impeccably good balance for such a powerful wine. The length though is what separates this wine from the "merely" great as it just goes on and on. The underlying material is knockout good and it may surprise you to read that even after 30 years of bottle age, this is still not even close to being ready and I would strongly advise keeping any magnums of this you may be lucky enough to own for at least another 10 years. To be sure, this is certainly a first-class pleasure to savor but if you want to drink it at its peak, I'm afraid that you're just going to have to have a bit more patience. In sum, this is a stunner of a Clos de Bèze that will very likely see its 100th birthday in fine condition!
