In it's youth I had the opportunity to try '93 Montrachet many times but more recently it hadn't come way way in almost a decade. I believe that it would be fair to say that the ensuing years have not been kind to this formerly excellent wine as it is clearly tiring and while the nose isn't overtly oxidative, the sous-bois and truffle aromas certainly flirt with it. This was always impressively complex and that aspect remains but otherwise the still broad-shouldered flavors are in concert with the nose in that they're tiring. As I noted, in its day this was a fine if not genuinely outstanding effort but it's clearly time to drink up as the fatigue will eventually overtake both the nose and the finish.
