At M's place for an impromptu dinner. Very dark, with some browning. On appearance, this definitely had some age. The nose was very alluring, with wiltered roses, very perfumed and intense. The palate was acidic, minerally and slightly rustic. This was a strange combination and we were struggling to decide on the identity of the wine. It didn't necessarily have the structure and length, but there was good fruits, acidity was not overpowering and there was a good balance. Wait, that nose was getting more and more familiar..... What else but something from Madam's stable of gems? Last wine of the night, surely this lineup was way too bloody extravagant for a midweek dinner!

The first hints of bricking are now in evidence as are the initial hints of secondary aromas nuanced by distinct notes of earth and underbrush along with subtle spice notes that continue onto the rich, delicious and solidly concentrated flavors (in the context of the vintage) that culminate in a delicious, lingering and sappy finish where an attractive touch of minerality surfaces. This is still quite vibrant if no longer exactly youthful and I would be inclined to hold it for another 2 to 4 years though note that with 30 minutes of aeration, it would not be infanticide to open one. In sum, excellent quality for its level.
