As one would expect given the cool character of the site, this is not nearly as ripe and indeed there is a hint of vegetal that is not unpleasant but certainly provides a contrast to the aromatic profile of the Clos de Vougeot. Here the nose is earthy, cool and airy with spice, dark berry fruit, a touch of wood toast and obvious earth and smoked game influences, both of which continue onto the intensely mineral-infused big-bodied flavors that for all the size and power remain beautifully detailed on the supple, forward and, like the Clos de Vougeot, only moderately structured finish. Very solid if not sensational quality in the context of the appellation.
