Bright but deep ruby. A notably ripe yet agreeably fresh and superbly spicy nose remains largely primary with ample floral elements along with an unusual touch of earth. The rich, seductive and relatively supple flavors possess a velvety and highly beguiling texture that contrasts with the stony, robust and borderline chewy finish where a touch of warmth eventually surfaces. Despite the seductive character of the mid-palate, the powerful and moderately austere finish makes it clear that the '09 RC is still quite youthful and that another 10 to 15 years of cellaring is in order. To be sure, this is already excellent though it seems all but certain that more depth is clearly on the way.
