This presents a completely different personality than the Charmes and the Mazis with austere, reserved black fruit notes, wonderfully complex flavors and staggering length. This is not necessarily better than the Mazis so much as it's bigger and more powerful. An amazing wine in the context of the vintage.

Tasted single blind. First time I have ever tasted Dugat-Py Chambertin. Poured alongside its vintage contemporaries from Leroy and Rousseau, it was comically easy to tell which was which - you could smell the Leroy immediately once poured, and this Dugat-Py was one of the darkest colored red Burgundies I have ever seen. Obviously served in a great flight, but frankly my least favorite. Black fruit throughout, not particularly forthcoming despite several hours in a decanter. Spice started to assert itself from middle through finish, but still overwhelmed by the wine's tannins. Didn't really evolve or improve in an hour+ in glass. For me it is unclear exactly how this wine will develop...but again, this was my first ever Dugat-Py Chambertin.
