The 2011 Maya is charming, open-knit and fruity with hints of black raspberries, black currants, licorice and a touch of leaf tobacco. Although much lighter than the 2009 and 2010, it is medium-bodied, richly fruity and attractive. It has the potential to last for 10-15 years. Following a significant replanting, Dalle Valle appears to have come back with an impressive group of wines. The proprietary red wine named after proprietress Naoko Dalla Valle’s daughter, Maya, used to be blended with 50-55% Cabernet Franc, but it is only about one-third of the blend over recent vintages.. One of the original cult wines of California, this brilliant wine has had enormous success since the mid- and late 1980s. The 2012s are typical for the vintage with lots of fruit, body and precocious, seductive personalities.
