This is the oldest vintage of Glenlochy bottled in 1952, the next oldest is a 1956 Cadenhead I believe? This has been on my bucket list to try for a long time. Nose Very rich sherry and very deep aroma wise. Cocoa, coffee, milk chocolate, plump dark raisins and yes some wood is present mixing with the sherry. Taking the lid off my nosing glass and with air you get burnt orange, jaffa cake, hints of menthol, faint coal tar soap. With a few more minutes in the glass, some fig and hints of prune juice. Palate Fizzy at first with a very rich chocolate and caramel note, what fruit there is that the nose hinted at is overpowered by the sherry & wood. The fruit is there is stewed plum, blackberry and a little fig and raspberry with damson. The wood is there but not as invasive as I was expecting as the fruit seems to grow and thankfully checks it. The depth of profile is not massive but after a few more minutes a subtle spice note is there Finish Mellow and soothing, not too long but very pleasant With a few small drops of water The nose is more pronounced, and the palate is a little sweeter with more spice which lingers into the finish, which is also a little sweeter.
