This was a Meursault that only Roulot could have made, especially from a less than remarkable year for the commune. It was stunningly youthful - 17 years-old, yet most people placed it in the mid-2000s when blind. It had a very pretty nose, with gently wafting scents of sweet musk, honeyscukle flowers, then lemons and apples with a lick of Meursault cream. The palate had a beautiful freshness to it, with bright, almost zippy acidity streaming through otherwise weighty flavours of green apples and crunchy nectarines surrounded by a halo of honeyed notes. Creamy, round, yet brilliantly balanced, this was a wine of great energy and verve. I liked the finish too, with its touch of citrussy lemons and kumquat underscored with a lovely hint of minerality. A truly superb village. I am quite sad to have but the one bottle - while so yummy now, this still had a certain reticence on the midpalate, and really needed another few years before showing anywhere near peak.
