Popped and poured as a birth-year wine. This is a solid ruby wine with some mild sediment toward the end of the bottle (surprisingly little sediment given the age of the wine, actually; not sure if this may have been filtered before bottling). On the nose, this is musty at first, but that quickly blows off to showcase old chests, wild mushrooms, red fruits, and leather. In the mouth, the wine is mid-weight with the acidic elements standing out the most but with some savory aspects lingering in the background. The finish is crisp but also highlights the advanced age of the wine. Overall, I would call this a classic 40+ year example of aged Bordeaux. This vintage will never be a highpoint for most French wines, but it also produced some solid wines that will hit and stay on an extended aged plateau – the 1979 LLC is one of them. 91 points.
