Ratings & Tasting Notes

Along with the La Romanée, this possesses the most dazzling nose in the tasting with its superbly spicy and wonderfully floral-suffused aromas of mostly red berries and exotic tea, all of which is trimmed in sandalwood. The suave, rich and caressing medium-weight plus flavors display ample muscle and power along with a firm bead of minerality on the moderately austere and stunningly long finish where the only nit is a trace of warmth. This is knockout good for the vintage and a wine that is very much on the way up. To be sure, the '11 LT isn't going to rival the truly great vintages of this storied wine, but it is seriously impressive all the same.

The La Tache 2011, picked on 5 and 6 September at 27.49hl/ha, has a wonderful bouquet that is quintessential La Tache: very complete and harmonious, beautifully delineated, succinct at first then with aeration, blossoming with brambly red berries, apple blossom, minerals and a touch of sous-bois. The palate is medium-bodied with immense purity and delicacy on the entry. This La Tache is extremely focused, velvety smooth in the mouth and although not as complex as the 2010, it has a beguiling femininity that will seduce at ten paces. It is extremely long in the mouth but politely does not outstay its welcome. Divine. (NM)
