Unlike many '89s at this point in their evolution, the nose is wonderfully fresh, stylish and gorgeously complex and while now fully mature, there is absolutely no trace of post-maturity and this freshness and verve continues onto the strikingly rich, full and naturally sweet big-bodied flavors that positively brim with dry extract before culminating in a palate staining and hugely persistent finish. This is a big Montrachet and sidles right up to the edge of losing focus yet it never falls over into excess or blowsiness. While the '89 Monty is certainly fully ready, it should be capable of holding at this plateau for years to come. Tasted twice recently with consistent results.
