Served blind. It had all the markings of a good syrah - smoked meat, tobacco, coffee and beautiful peppery black fruits. This felt a bit hollow at the core and structurally messy despite how well the classical markers of Syrah were showing. I thought this was new world Syrah blind...never would've guessed a Guigal Landonne! The 1993 context makes sense - I suppose even the best producers cannot fight against a year that naturally reduced depth in Northern Rhone wines. Not my favorite Landonne vintage, but a nice wine to drink nonetheless!
