Descriptions, Ratings & Tasting Notes

A stunning 1968 vintage bottling of Glenvilet from Silvano Samaroli. This is one of two releases to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the company in 1993, the other was a Glenfarclas under the Coilltean label.

Samaroli is perhaps Italy's most revered independent bottler of Scotch whisky. With an impeccable taste in single cask whiskies, and an eye for aesthetics (if not English spelling at times!), he is regarded by many as a visionary. Many of his bottles now occupy deserved sports on the pantheon of whisky greats.

The 'aquarelle' watercolour on this label was painted by Silvano himself.

Nose: A creamy, waxy spice rises in the glass. Old and dusty aromas of old paper, leather, old dresser and plank boards. Add honey, peeled cucumber and dill and a splash of fruity orange and lime. Taste: Full-fat fruity - and provided with a tremendous spice. Almost seamless with the aromas of the nose, sweet yet fresh, tangy yet with so much peppery spiciness. Fruity orange slices with fresh mint, eucalyptus and ... and ... and. Finish: Long ... nice and long and hardly dry. Wood, chocolate, mint (after-eight), cocoa, notes of mocha and honey and fruity orange. Comment: Once again state of emergency. An absolutely worthy malt to celebrate his 25th birthday!
