1982 Giacomo Conterno Barolo Riserva Monfortino—Medium translucent ruby. The 1982 Monfortino offers a captivating nose of roses, sweet fruit and truffles you could spend an entire day immersed in. The wine explodes onto the palate offering a kaleidoscope of ripe fruit, mineral, menthol and leather flavors on a medium bodied, yet structured frame with superb length and an eternal finish. It appears to be miraculously youthful and in need of at least a few more years before reaching what promises to be a glorious peak, although it is astonishingly good today.
