Descriptions, Ratings & Tasting Notes

A 1988 vintage Hanyu, bottled for Full Proof Europe with their usual, unusual label.

Since its stills were turned off in 2000, Hanyu has become one of Japan's most sought after single malts. An economic recession at the turn of the millennium forced the distillery to shut its doors, and the remaining casks of its unblended whisky stock were purchased by Venture Whisky, a firm established by the Hanyu distillery founder's grandson, Ichiro Akuto, in 2004. In 2005 he bottled his first single casks under the Ichiro's Malt label.

This is a single cask from the closed Japanese distillery, bottled in 2008.

Wow, dream notes regarding the herbs and essences, as if you were in a market in rural Japan or rather even China, especially the departure is for some time the tastiest and most impressive I have had. Nose Very long leather dipped in caring oil, incense sticks with some cinnamon and frankincense aroma, plum wine, some pickled cherries and young figs, sour peasant apples, camphor, cumin, ginger, hints of anise, later dark chocolate and some licorice Taste Great cherry juice, plum wine, some espresso and dark chocolate, chestnuts, anise, cumin, turmeric, cardamom and fennel, eucalyptus, green tea, liquorice, licorice, a little baked apple, cinnamon, raisins, very nice oriental, pomegranate Finish Here, the tannins come through beautifully and all the herbs open even further in a drier way as in late tea-Schlücken, where there are some residue, warming, medium to long, incense sticks, frankincense and cherry, very delicious finish
